Avebury's Stone Circle surrounds the village of Avebury. Pre-dating Stonehenge by 500 years, the standing stones of Avebury is the largest stone circle in the UK. The site is composed of two inner stone circles, one large outer stone circle, and earthen works.

Photo above - A section of the outer stone circle with its earthen work. The earthen work is composed of a ditch and bank, the bank's height is about 18 feet. Click on the photo for a closer view.
